KIP Local World Online
(Last changes March-1, 96)

In October 95 we have planned to set up a public access to a local KIP-world for MS Windows-Clients. A client programm called Stevie II has indeed been finished in january 96.

But there is still no connection to KIP I available. The reasons for this lack of connections are (i) the communication costs for the local server of KIP I have shown up to be to high for us to be paid; (ii) because we changed the operatings systems from NextSTep to HP-UX and LINUX, but having still only two workstations available, we can not operate a simulation while working on KIP II. We hoped to get some money to buy a server especially dedicated for a KIP I world, but this hope could not be fullfilled until now.

Partially on account of this weakness of KIP I regarding the net load we have decided to redesign the basic architecture completely new (see Evaluation of some Network Architectures for more details). As a result we will get a software solution where you can run a KIP II simulation with one single machine alone, but you can connect as well to as many other hosts as you want; the new architecture is really scalable.

A first running -but nevertheless only simple- version of KIP II will probably be available during autumn 1996.
